Partly Facetious: Why are they fighting for Senate chairmanship?
"You know there is one thing I simply cannot understand about our politicians".
"Why they are fighting for the slot of Senate Chairman? I agree, the office-holder has limited if any powers and..."
"Ah, but when the president is out he can take the President's protocol, I mean the office may have no powers but it has protocol."
"Speaking of protocol, I agree all our politicians crave it and God help those who refuse to extend them protocol, I mean dismissals, suspensions, transfers to the backwater of beyond, you name it they engage in proactive retribution when in power but at the same time they would happily meet the lowliest foreign bureaucrat, be he or she a member of a foreign government or multilateral agency, and then boast about the meeting in a press release."
"What you consider lowly may actually be the initial approver of a loan if you will."
"But protocol implies individuals of a certain level meet individuals of the same level when they visit a foreign country."
"What are you referring to?"
"Our minister may meet a sanitation engineer from the US embassy and he would issue a press release to that effect."
"Doesn't the US embassy hire Pakistani sanitation engineers?"
"I am just saying!"
"What are you training to become - a politician? Don't exaggerate. Besides let's not forget the US gives us a lot of money and as long as that transactional relationship is ongoing we will receive who ever the US administration sends over to meet with who ever."
"What about multilateral agencies? Their senior bureaucrats meet with our finance minister, and sometimes the minister takes them to meet with the prime minister..."
"Again they give us money and if you want to take credit for loans at whatever the rate then you meet with whoever they send and if you have a close relationship with the prime minister the meeting as they say is guaranteed."
"I guess."
